CCO Awards 2016: Excellence in Teaching

Recipient: Bruce Caine, triOS College Business Technology Healthcare.
Great teaching does not come from a textbook. It comes from the leadership and guidance of those who are born to teach. Great teachers are those who are willing to put in the time and effort to help students go the extra mile, even if they may be facing great adversity themselves.
With nearly 18 years’ experience in the classroom, Bruce Caine still exhibits a passion and commitment that inspires his students. A resounding favourite amongst students and staff, Bruce harbours a patient demeanor combined with a disciplined work ethic.
Bruce is an active advocate for supporting young adults with disabilities—a cause that resides close to his heart. Bruce’s youngest son has Down Syndrome, and therefore requires more care than most young adults his age. Recently, Bruce encouraged all students and staff to vote for a youth program called Roots 2 Wings to win the ADP Small Business Grant. Root 2 Wings offers programs for youth and young adults living with disabilities. As a result, the program received $10000, which the program attributes primarily to Bruce’s support.
Over the years, Bruce’s resilience and love for teaching has earned him a number of awards, including: The Career Academy Instructor of the Year Award (1998), Outstanding Contributions Award (2009), and the Passion for Excellence Award (2014). His success and perseverance in spite of all obstacles, including the sudden passing of his son in August 2014 and ongoing health issues, is a testament to his commitment, sense of compassion and community, as well as an unfaltering love of his craft.
